Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students)
Car Drop-Off Program
What Is Watch D.O.G.S.?
Watch D.O.G.S. is Farragut’s car drop-off program, allowing parents to drive through the back parking lot and drop off and watch their child/ren get safely escorted to the school entrance. Watch D.O.G.S. was implemented at Farragut at the end of the 2013 school year in hopes of alleviating the traffic congestion in front of the school. This is part of a national program that aims for innovative father involvement in the school community and to provide a positive male role model to our student’s educational experience on a daily basis.
How Does Watch D.O.G.S. Work?
Farragut students can be dropped off in the back parking lot between 8:35 am and 8:45 am. Driving parents are guided by Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers as to what path to follow in their car prior to dropping off their child. Parents are requested to be patient as Watch D.O.G.S. make sure that each student gets from their car to the school entrance safely.
Volunteers meet each day at 8:25 am in the back parking lot near the library. Traffic cones are set up to direct cars to an area next to the Culver City iAcademy. Watch D.O.G.S. open doors to let the students out and direct them along a marked path to the school entrance. They provide watchful eyes and guidance for the safety of our little pedestrians and hope to start their day with a smile. It’s a great way to meet Farragut’s community. Soon after the 8:45 am bell, Watch D.O.G.S. gather the cones and place them back inside the gate next to the library where they remain for the next day’s work.
How Can You Help?
Ideally Watch D.O.G.S. wants at least 2-3 parent volunteers each day for this fun and easy opportunity to help the school and our kids. It’s a quick 20 minutes volunteer assignment. You can sign up for as many days as you want; one day a week, once a month, or be on call to fill in for one of our regulars when they can’t attend that day. Absences are usually known at least the day before. You can sign up as a Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer by emailing Chair Mel Mecham at dmelrun@yahoo.com.
Please consider joining our D.O.G.S. program. And don’t let the acronym stop all the moms out there who would like to offer their assistance, too! The bigger the pack, the more effective the Watch D.O.G.S. are.
